Seaside charm, slow mornings, coastal walks and the kind of views you don't need to rush.

There are places you visit… and places you feel.

Llandudno was very much the second.

We spent two nights in Llandudno during our North Wales trip - a little pause between adventure days, somewhere softer and slower, and a place that completely surprised us with its charm.

Think grand Victorian buildings lining the promenade, salty sea air, the Great Orme rising dramatically above the town and evenings spent wandering without much of a plan.

If you're looking for a North Wales escape that combines seaside charm, beautiful scenery, easy adventures and plenty of time to simply slow down, Llandudno is well worth putting on your list.

Here's what we'd recommend after spending two nights there.

Llandudno at a glance

📍 Where: North Wales

🌊 Best for: Seaside escapes, couples, coastal walks, families and a slower weekend away

⏰ How long: We spent 2 nights, which felt like a lovely amount of time

🥾 Nearby: Great Orme, Conwy, Eryri (Snowdonia) and the North Wales coast

💛 Our verdict: One of those places that's easy to enjoy without needing a packed itinerary

Where is Llandudno?

Llandudno sits on the North Wales coast, tucked between the Great Orme and Little Orme.

The town curves around a beautiful bay, with the Victorian promenade and famous pier forming the heart of the seafront.

It's a place that feels wonderfully old-fashioned in the best possible way.

Grand hotels, wide promenades, traditional seaside attractions and colourful shops give Llandudno a nostalgic character, while the surrounding landscape gives you plenty of opportunities to get outside and explore.

And that's probably what we liked most about it.

You can have a slow morning by the sea, spend the afternoon exploring the Great Orme, then wander back into town for dinner without feeling as though you've spent the entire day travelling between attractions.

Where to Stay in Llandudno

For our two-night stay, we chose Escape Boutique B&B, and honestly… we couldn't have picked better.

Its location was ideal for us - close enough to walk into the heart of Llandudno and the promenade, while still giving us somewhere peaceful to come back to.

It had exactly the balance we look for when travelling:

central enough to make exploring easy, but cosy enough to actually switch off.

And for a short break, that matters.

We'd much rather be able to step out of our accommodation and start wandering than spend half the weekend getting in and out of the car.

Our tip

When choosing where to stay in Llandudno, we'd prioritise somewhere within easy walking distance of the promenade and town centre.

That way, you can leave the car behind for much of your stay and enjoy Llandudno at a slower pace.

The best things to do in Llandudno

You don't need a huge list of attractions to enjoy Llandudno.

For us, it was more about choosing a few experiences and leaving enough space in between them to actually enjoy the town.

Here are the ones we'd put at the top of your list.

  1. Walk the Llandudno Promenade

This became one of our favourite things to do.

Morning walks.

Golden-hour walks.

Post-dinner walks.

The promenade stretches around the bay, with the sea on one side and Llandudno's distinctive Victorian architecture on the other.

It's completely different depending on the time of day.

In the morning, everything feels calm.

Around sunset, the light starts to soften the buildings and the Great Orme becomes even more dramatic.

And sometimes, there's nothing better than simply walking somewhere with no particular destination.

This is one of those places.

  1. Wander along Llandudno Pier

You can't really visit Llandudno without walking its famous Victorian pier.

It's one of the town's defining landmarks and stretches out into the bay, giving you a completely different perspective of the coastline.

Go for the classic seaside experience:

An ice cream.

A little arcade wandering.

A stroll towards the end.

And, if you can, go around sunset.

That's when we visited, and it was one of those small moments that made the trip feel special.

  1. Explore the Great Orme

If there's one thing you shouldn't miss in Llandudno, it's the Great Orme.

The huge limestone headland rises above the town and gives you some of the best views across the coast.

And you have options for how you experience it.

You can:

  • walk

  • drive

  • take the historic Great Orme Tramway

  • take the cable car

  • explore the surrounding paths

  • visit the historic copper mines

We'd recommend allowing at least half a day if you want to properly explore the area rather than simply heading up for the view.

Good to know

The Great Orme isn't just a viewpoint.

It's a whole experience in itself, so don't make the mistake of treating it as a quick photo stop.

Give yourself time to wander.

And keep your eyes open for the famous Kashmiri goats, which roam the headland.

Discover West Shore Beach

For something quieter, head to West Shore Beach.

Less crowded than the main promenade, this side of Llandudno offers a more peaceful atmosphere - ideal for sunset, slow walks, and switching off.

  1. Spend some time at West Shore Beach

If the busy seafront isn't quite your thing, head around to West Shore.

It's noticeably quieter and has a much more peaceful atmosphere than the main North Shore.

For us, this is the sort of place that works beautifully towards the end of the day.

Walk.

Watch the light change.

Take in the views.

Don't rush back into town.

It's also a lovely contrast to the more traditional seaside atmosphere around the pier and main promenade.

Our 2-night Llandudno itinerary

If you're visiting for a weekend, here's how we'd spend two nights.

DAY ONE - ARRIVE & SLOW DOWN

Afternoon

Arrive in Llandudno and check into your accommodation.

Once you've settled in, head out towards the promenade.

Take a slow walk along the seafront and get your bearings.

There's no need to start ticking attractions off a list immediately.

This is your chance to settle into the Llandudno pace.

Late afternoon

Walk towards Llandudno Pier.

Explore the pier, grab a drink or something sweet and enjoy the views across the bay.

Evening

Head back into town for dinner.

Then, if the weather is on your side, take another walk along the promenade afterwards.

This was one of our favourite parts of staying here — having nowhere else we needed to be.

DAY TWO - GREAT ORME & COASTAL LLANDUDNO

Morning

Start with breakfast before heading towards the Great Orme.

Choose your preferred way to reach the summit depending on the weather, how active

you're feeling and how much time you have.

If you're driving, walking or using one of the attractions to reach the top, allow yourself plenty of time rather than treating it as a quick stop.

Late morning/lunchtime

Explore the summit and surrounding area.

Take in the views.

Look out for the goats.

And, most importantly, give yourself time to actually enjoy being there.

Afternoon

Head back into Llandudno and explore the town.

Have lunch, wander through the streets and browse some of the independent shops.

Then make your way towards West Shore Beach.

Sunset

This is where we'd slow things down again.

Walk along West Shore and watch the sun begin to disappear over the landscape.

It's a lovely way to end the day.

Evening

Dinner back in Llandudno, followed by one last stroll along the promenade.

DAY THREE - ONE LAST WALK BEFORE YOU LEAVE

Before heading home, we'd make time for one final walk along the seafront.

If you've got more time, you could also use Llandudno as a base for exploring more of North Wales.

Conwy is nearby, while Eryri (Snowdonia) offers a wide range of hiking and outdoor adventures.

And that's another reason we think Llandudno works so well as a short break:

You can make the entire trip about Llandudno…

or use it as a comfortable base for exploring more of North Wales.

Where to eat in Llandudno

Llandudno surprised us when it came to food.

Yes, you'll find all the traditional seaside favourites you'd expect, but there's more to the food scene than fish and chips.

You'll find independent cafés, cosy pubs, restaurants and places focusing on local Welsh produce.

One place we tried

Dylan's Llandudno

We enjoyed our visit here and would definitely consider it when planning a return.

But one of our favourite things about Llandudno was not having every meal planned before we arrived.

Sometimes: less planning, more wandering.

Find somewhere that looks inviting, sit down and see where the evening takes you.

Is Llandudno worth visiting?

Yes. Absolutely.

But we'd recommend Llandudno for a particular kind of traveller.

It's not somewhere we'd visit because we wanted to spend two days rushing between major attractions.

We'd go because we wanted:

  • a relaxing coastal escape

  • beautiful scenery

  • easy walks

  • a little adventure

  • good food

  • somewhere romantic

  • time away from the usual pace of life

And that's exactly what we found.

Two nights felt like a lovely amount of time for our trip.

Enough to explore.

Enough to eat well.

Enough to see the coastline.

And, most importantly, enough time to actually slow down.

Things we'd know before visiting Llandudno

🚗 You don't need the car for everything

If you're staying centrally, much of Llandudno can be explored on foot.

We'd leave the car parked whenever possible and enjoy the promenade and town at walking pace.

🥾 Give the Great Orme time

Don't squeeze it into a tiny gap in your itinerary.

There is much more to see than simply reaching the viewpoint.

🌅 Don't underestimate sunset

The coastline is beautiful during the day, but some of our favourite moments were when the light started changing.

🧥 Pack for Welsh weather

Even if the forecast looks promising, coastal and mountain weather can change quickly.

Layers and a waterproof are never a bad idea.

🗓️ Two nights is a great starting point

For a relaxed weekend, we'd happily recommend two nights.

Stay longer if you want to use Llandudno as a base for exploring more of North Wales.

What we'd do differently next time

We wouldn't change much.

If anything, we'd simply allow ourselves more time to wander without an agenda.

It's very easy when travelling to think you need to see everything.

Llandudno reminded us that sometimes the best part of a trip is having nowhere you need to be.

A walk along the promenade.

A coffee.

The sea.

A sunset.

A good dinner.

And someone you love beside you.

That's enough.

Our MaJa Take

Llandudno isn't necessarily the destination we'd choose if we wanted a packed weekend of adrenaline and activities.

And that's exactly why we loved it.

It gave us a little pause between adventures.

A place to breathe.

A place to walk.

A place to eat.

A place to simply be.

It's nostalgic without feeling stuck in the past, beautiful without needing to be flashy and close enough to some of North Wales' biggest adventures that you can easily combine the two.

For us, Llandudno wasn't about ticking off a list.

It was about the moments in between.

And those are usually the ones we remember.
